Frequently Asked Questions

  • What type of crane do I need?

AMAC Cranes specialise in the rental of all-terrain cranes. Depending on your lifting requirements and the landscape of the worksite, our versatile truck-mounted and mobile cranes are sure to suit all your needs.

  • What brands do you carry?

Our extensive, all-terrain fleet includes cranes from renowned brands such as Liebherr and Terex.

  • Is a Franna crane the same as a taxi crane?

Franna cranes are often referred to as taxi cranes. This is because their role is to lift heavy equipment and load bulky supplies. Also known as “pick and carry” cranes, they are designed without outriggers or stabilising legs so they can function in an area with limited space. A Franna crane is allowed to travel on public roads, so supplies can be transported across multiple job sites.

  • Can I drive a Franna Crane on a public road?

One of the things that makes the Franna Crane such a useful tool for the construction industry is that it’s road legal. This means it’s easy to transport supplies between sites with minimum fuss.

  • Where are Franna cranes made?

Franna Cranes are made in Brisbane. They were specially designed for the Australian climate and terrain. They were created in 1980 and have played a key role in the Australian construction industry ever since. They are now part of a larger corporation called Terex and are available worldwide, but because they were designed specifically for the Australian mining and construction industries, this is still their main market.

  • Why should I choose an all terrain crane?

All-terrain cranes combine the features of a rough terrain crane and an all-terrain crane. Their key benefit is manoeuvrability and the ease with which they handle heavy tasks. They can usually lift over 1000 tons, so they are useful on all sorts of construction sites. All-terrain cranes are exceptionally good at handling the Australian landscape, plus they can operate in any climate and extreme weather conditions.

As well as being able to handle even the toughest terrain, all-terrain cranes feature a telescopic boom. This can be retracted, so the cranes can travel safely on the road, making them ideal for multi-site construction.

  • What is the difference between rough-terrain and all-terrain cranes?

Both of these cranes are used in construction and share a lot of common features. There are several key differences that will help you choose between the types of cranes for hire.

All-terrain cranes feature a telescopic boom and a large number of tyres—up to around 14 on some cranes. They also have a wider cab and taller wheels than most rough terrain cranes. All of these features mean an all-terrain crane is very stable, even on the most rugged landscape.

Another key difference between all-terrain cranes and rough terrain cranes is the fact they can travel at higher speeds on public roads. This makes them exceptionally mobile and easy to move between jobs, so they’re ideal for work across different sites.
